I must admit, I have never suffered from anxiety. I cannot imagine how painful, stressful and devastating the condition can be.

And while I haven’t suffered from it, I’ve had a few friends of mine that have suffered and are still suffering from anxiety.
I see the pain in their eyes on a constant basis.
Beat anxiety
- What I’ve found out during my years of being friends with people suffering from anxiety is that pills and pharmaceutical options offer short-term cures.
- But there is a downside as well, as most pharmaceutical options come with a bevy of side effects, gaining weight being just one of them.
- And luckily for my friends and you and your friends, there are always natural alternatives for battling with anxiety.
- And the best part is, on a long-term, some of the natural ways offer better benefits and are more effective.
Here are some.
Let Food be Your Medicine
- Hippocrates said it best centuries ago, your food can be your medicine. And he couldn’t be more right.
- If you are suffering from anxiety, chances are, you have a deficiency of magnesium, zinc and vitamin B1.
- What you can do is consume foods that contain some of those vitamins and minerals, as well as amino-acids.
- For starters, you must stay away from processed foods. Some of the foods you should look for include berries, peaches, oats, and other foods rich in fiber and minerals.
Go Out on the Sun
- One of the vitamins mostly related to anxiety and depression is vitamin D. There is no better way to boost your vitamin D production than going out in the sun more often.
- You only need 15 minutes on the sun, and your depression will go away. And besides, is there something better than going outside and enjoying the sunny rays?
- Now, for those of you living in an urban area, make it mandatory to go to the park once per day, or at least once per week.
- Just sit, or walk and relax. Let your mind wander while you are soaking up vitamin D.
Exercise
- Working out is another long-term solution for anxiety and depression.
- Exercise is good for your overall health but also helps your body produce more endorphins.
- Working out is known to boost mood and increase relaxation.
- Now, without going all medicine on you, and trying to explain the complex process that is happening within our body, I will tell you just this, exercise can control the neurotransmitter serotonin.
- And if you do not trust me, get at least 20 minutes of exercise per day, and then you can see for yourself.
- Of course, do not expect results overnight, but after a few weeks, you will notice the change of mood.
Chamomile Tea
- Unlike previous remedies, that were all long-term solutions, chamomile tea is a great instant booster.
- You can instantly feel better, and your anxiety and depression will fly away.
- The reason why chamomile tea is as great as anxiety lies in the two chemicals that the tea contains: luteolin and apigenin.
- Both promote relaxation, and for a long-term solution, you can drink three cups of chamomile tea to improve your moodiness.
Lavender
- Another instant booster for anxiety and mood is lavender. The best way to fight anxiety with lavender is via lavender massages.
- Aside from helping with anxiety, lavender is also a nice way to lower systolic blood pressure, which relieves you from stress.
- If you do not want to go to a message as if there is someone who wouldn’t enjoy a nice massage, there are other ways to help yourself with lavender.
- Simply sprinkle some drops of lavender oil on your pillow before you go to bed. You can also sprinkle some drops in your bath as well.
- Another way to experience the benefits of lavender is to put some drops in a bowl with boiling water and inhale the steam.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
- There have been some studies showing the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids in the battle with anxiety.
- According to the studies, omega-3 fatty acids lower your stress chemicals in the body, including cortisol and adrenaline.
- One way to increase your omega-3 fatty acids intake is to consume fish, including salmon and tuna fish. You can also try walnuts and nuts.
L-Lysine
- Another amino acid helps to ease the symptoms of anxiety, and that is L-Lysine.
- The way these amino-acid works is that it serves as the building block of neurotransmitters.
- For those of you who do not know, neurotransmitters are the chemical messengers of your brain.
- You can get more of this helpful amino-acid by consuming more fish, beans, and meat. Or, you can always consider oral supplements.
- For what is worth, the amino acid can lower levels of stress hormones and reduce anxiety symptoms.
Epsom Salts Bath
- Epsom salts bath is another great way to relax, enjoy yourself and fight anxiety symptoms at the same time.
- A hot bath itself can raise the temperature of your body. Toss in some Epsom salts and you will get a relaxation factor as well.
- The salt contains high amounts of magnesium sulfate, a chemical that lowers blood pressure, lowers symptoms of stress and alleviates anxiety.
- And since we already mentioned the benefits of lavender oil, you can throw that in as well for maximum effect.
Caffeine
- If there was even a good reason to drink coffee, this is it.
- Coffee boosts your energy level, but also helps you with anxiety symptoms.
- Now, since there are side effects of drinking too much coffee, you can always get caffeine from other sources, such as green tea or dark chocolate.
